Take a role of aluminum foil with you. It has many uses including: cooking on open fires – making damper, steaming fish, repairing solar panels, using as a sunshield, covering holes in roof, made into a ball for kids to kick around and even used to create a simple a reflecter beacon in emergencies.
I once got all four wheels bogged in sand up at Rainbow Beach and didnt even have a shovel, not that digging any deeper would have helped. But one thing I always keep in the 4×4 now is a good length of nylon rope for towing. It also helps to let 80% of the air out of your tires when driving on soft sand. Its a simple one yes, but a real bugger if you dont know this tip!
I like the idea of using Alum foil for a reflecter in emergencies, can anyone elaborate on how this would work? Nice one Tezza. Ah and yes I can say that a tow rope is now part of my own kit when travelling, as with some old tarp that doubles as traction when stuck in sand.
I like to take some meals that I have already cooked frozen in the Esky. Beginning of your trip it makes a great ice brick. When you are ready for it to be a meal pull it out to defrost in the morning. My favourite meal to date is a spicy curry.
